Channel 4 Superscrimpers!

After really enjoying last weeks episode I had high hopes  for last night, but unfortunately I was disappointed yet again (Except for the ad back int he 1930s/40s that for old tyres, cut them up and wear them as shoes! The 1 thing that made the show worth while hehehe)

Anyway, this week they had a woman on the show, who makde 8k a year working part time and couldnt help but "treating" herself to designer everything. Her credit card bills were over 7,600! So Ms Moneypennys tip for her? Work out how many hours you need to work if you want to buy an item. So this woman saw a dress and it would cost her 19 hours worth of work! Supposedly this has helped her stop shopping so much... Can someone please go back to her in 3 months and see how she is doing?

Regarding tips, they didnt have a great amount unfortunately.
  • One woman puts an empty ice cream carton in her toilet cistern, which means less water is used when flushing (might be useful when those charges come in!)
  • Another woman said if you need to sharpen a scissors, get some old tin foil, fold it up a good few times and just cut it numerous times, which should sharpen it great
  • To make your room smell nice when hoovering, instead of buying something smelly to stick in your hoover bag, get a cotton wool ball, and spray your favourite perfume or scent onto it a good few times and stick it into the hoover bag. Whenever you then hoover you will leave that gorgeous smell in your room (i like this tip)
Anyone else got a good tip??

Superscrimpers - Channel 4

Was looking forward to this episode, even though the previous episodes hadnt been great, but this episode I felt was full of useful money-saving tips. My favourite were:
  • Use conditioner on a cloth to shine your shoes
  • Put new tights into the freezer overnight - supposedly stops them laddering
  • Put crushed egg shells around any plants. It will keep the slugs away as they dont like scratchy surfaces
  • When your freezer is a bit empty, get some old news paper, scrunch it up and put it into the freezer. This stops the freezer from having to cool an empty space which will save some €'s
  • Take a banana, scrap off the pith off the skin and use the skin to take the tarnish off any silver
  • Put chunks of lemon into your kettle, boil it up and leave it to stand over night, it will act as a de-scaler
So there ya have it... Anyone have any other tips?

In Lidl they have good bargains too, but cleverly space them out for different days of the week so you are more likely to go into the shop a couple of times a week. Some of their bargains are:

Car-boot Sale Update

Well the car boot sale turned out to be loads of fun. The weather was gorgeous and there were a good few stalls all around the grounds of the All Saints Church in Raheny

We ended up selling a few bits which was delighted and my boyfriend ended up getting a gorgeous record player from the 70's for €22 and 9 records for €10! And my sis found a lovely portable sewing machine for €12. Great day had by all and we are hopefully going to be there Saturday again :)

Car Boot Sale - Raheny Village - 9th April

I LOVE a good car boot sale. You never know what you are going to find, plus I love rummaging through things, always looking for a bargain!

Tomorrow All Saints Church, on the Howth Road, in Raheny Village is having a Car Boot Sale and myself, my sister (Lovely Girlie Bits) and my boyfriend (The Cooks Belly) are going to be there with our own stall :) First time we are doing this and I cant wait! We have SO much to sell and everything is going to be between 50cent and €5 tops! If not even less than that (we still have to price everything). On the day we will have some clothes from Warehouse, Oasis, Marks & Spencers, Zara, River Island, long with shoes from Newlook (some with the labels still on!) and Jessica Simpson silver peep toe sandles. We have SO many bags to sell, all in excellent condition; brands such as Guess and Old Navy, as well as a LOT of scarves and pasminas.

If you have nothing to do tomorrow, please come on down for a fun day for everyone. I think there is an entrance fee of €2, plus afterwards its only a short stroll to St Annes Park, which usually has a Farmers Market on a Saturday by the Red Stables, or you could walk down to Dollymount beach!

Super-Scrimpers - Channel 4

Even though I didnt enjoy the episode last week, I just had to watch it again this week to see if they had any new tips for saving.

Miss Money-penny went to a family that were spending more than they had each week and her solution??? Eat what you have in the fridge, turn off lights in rooms you arent using and half the pocketmoney you are giving the kids (they were getting £12 a week!!) Anyhoo, they had a week of not being allowed to spend a penny and supposedly they now know the way of scrimping... Anyone else think that Channel 4 should go  back and visit these familys in a few months time to see how how things have changed for them, if they even have!

Anyhoo, there were a few tips and hints that may or may not be useful to you guys.

First one was, buy a 2ltr bottle of the cheapest coke you can find...tesco own brand or lidl or aldi, and basically pour some down the toilet. Supposedly if you leave it for about 24 hours it will get rid of any limescale and leave your loo spotless! --- Any takers for that one?

Another one was if you are cooking minced beef, add dry porridge oats.. this soaks up all the juices and bulks out the meal, so your meat goes a lot further. They say you cant really tell the difference that there is something else other than minced beef in it.

And thirdly, my favourite one which i have to try, they said to store all candles, including tea lights, in the freezer. It makes the wax even harder so the candles burn for longer!

Anyone out there got any handy tips for around the house?

Banbridge Outlets

Having been to Kildare Village Outlet a few times and never buying anything (really have never seen a proper bargain to be honest), myself, my sister, and my Mam drove up to the Banbridge Outlet, its on the same motor way as Newry/Belfast, about 15 minute outside Newry.

The shops are quite good with Marks & Spencers, Nike, Gap, Oasis, Clarkes and Past-Times to name just a few. The bargain of the day was my Mam getting two pairs of Nike runners on sale for £28 each!

Would deffo recommend people to head up for a look, if you were going up to Newry anyway. Click here to view their website!
